[Monitor Basilisk]

I always name my paintings after they’re finished.

For this one, the title Monitor Basilisk emerged because the image carried an unmistakable reptilian energy.

The digital distortion suggests a kind of hybrid entity, a creature caught between organic entropy and mechanical configuration.

The surveillance-like specks within the painting’s surface started to feel less like noise and more like points of vision, reinforcing the sense of a presence that is not only being observed, but also looking back at the viewer.

In Western mythology, the basilisk’s gaze is deadly, a concept that felt symbolically coherent with the artwork‘s nature.

The name Monitor Basilisk, not least because of it’s parallel to the actual monitor lizard, felt both obvious and strangely fitting on every level. A fusion of the mythological and the artificial, where something ancient and symbolic takes on a synthetic, constructed form.
